The 92-year-old Feller, who was recently admitted to the Cleveland Clinic with pneumonia, has been transferred to a hospice in the Cleveland area, Bob DiBiasio, the team's vice president of public relations confirmed to The Associated Press on Wednesday night.

Nets Recall Terrence Williams From NBA D-League

Terrence WilliamsAlthough the Nets may have assigned Terrence Williams to the NBA D-League for all the wrong reasons, he certainly made the most of his time. In three games for the Springfield Armor, Williams averaged an astounding 28.0 points, 11.3 points and 10.7 assists.

Unfortunately for the Armor, though, Williams will no longer flirt with a triple-double on a night-to-night basis in the D-League as the Nets announced today that they have recalled the 23-year-old swingman.

"We saw a lot of what we needed to see,'' Nets head coach Avery Johnson told the New Jersey Star-Ledger on Tuesday. "I know his team went 1-2, but from an individual standpoint, we thought he played a lot of minutes, took a lot of shots and was real active. I've watched all three games, and based on that evaluation, we feel now is a good time for him to return.''

It's interesting that one of the things Johnson was hoping to see Williams do in the D-League was take a lot of shots, but Williams did just that, hitting 29 of 68 attempts, including 10 of 20 from beyond the arc. His first game seemed to be more of a feeling-out period as he looked to pass more than shoot, seemingly trying to get comfortable in the D-League. But even then, Williams netted a triple-double by scoring 16 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing 13 assists, while throwing in a steal and a block for good measure.

Williams also commented on Twitter, saying "First thing first it's def good to be back, I give all glory to God he put me in the position to do right an has a great plan."

Williams has played in eight games with the Nets this season, averaging 6.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 19.9 minutes per game. He is expected to be in the rotation when New Jersey visits the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.

Chris Johnson: We're Stopping Ourselves

Chris Johnson wants the ball more.

And while that's probably true of any NFL running back, Johnson -- a third-year veteran who rushed for more than 2,000 yards last season -- said a lack of carries is a big reason for the Tennessee Titans' recent lack of a running offense. That lack of carries, he said, is a result of lack of execution.

"We are just not running it," John Glennon and Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reported Johnson saying this week. "It is easy for a defensive coordinator to stop the run when you are running the ball seven times. We need to stay on the field and execute plays.''

Johnson rushed for 58 yards on 20 carries the last two games -- a 20-0 loss to the Houston Texans and a 17-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. That's a stark contrast to last season, when he peaked down the stretch en route to one of the most productive running seasons in NFL history.

Johnson spoke extensively before the season of rushing for 2,500 yards, but he has just 1,026 yards on 236 carries through 12 games. Last season, he had rushed for 1,509 yards on 244 carries through 12 games.

Jon Gruden 'Committed' to ESPN, 'Thankful' for Current Job

by Milton Kent

Jon Gruden rumors ESPNSeeking to quell speculation that he is in play for current and future coaching vacancies, Jon Gruden declared Thursday that he is "committed" to ESPN.

Gruden, who coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a win in Super Bowl XXXVII, said he is "very thankful to have the job that I have" -- Gruden serves as analyst on "Monday Night Football," where he is in the middle of his second season, paired with play-by-play man Mike Tirico and fellow color man Ron Jaworski.

"I'm eager to try to get better at it," said Gruden.

Gruden's name surfaced earlier this week as a candidate for the opening at the University of Miami. The Miami Herald reported Thursday that Gruden met with Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt. However, the newspaper's sources characterized the conversation as exploratory and said no job offer was made.

Said Gruden: "I knew there was a lot of speculation over the last few days, and for that, I'm sorry. I'm just excited to be with "Monday Night Football," and my teammates, Ron and Mike."

Time Will Tell for Streaking Miami Heat

MILWAUKEE -- It was late in the first quarter, and LeBron James was sitting on the bench, looking at his finger, the ring finger on his left hand to be precise. He was biting at it, and eventually turned and called the trainer. This was it? A big moment?

The trainer brought over ... nail clippers. And James, wearing his wristband that didn't say LIVESTRONG on it, but rather KING JAMES, sat there and did his nails.

And that's when it hit me: we might be looking a little too hard at James, Dwyane Wade, that other guy and the Miami Heat for a telling moment. Each detail is not going to tell their story in early December. This thing is going to play out, and while they all have looked like a bunch of divas so far, brought down by their own egos, they are awfully talented.

The real news is that the Heat, in the past week, have started to look a little more like a team, albeit against bad opponents. Miami beat lowly Milwaukee, 88-78, Monday night in a game that proved nothing, said nothing. It was the Heat's fifth straight win.

"Going through those situations early in the season helped us," James said. "We couldn't right the ship, couldn't get through that. The early season trials and tribulations we've been through have helped us calm down."

Dominic Rhodes Signs With Colts

Filed under:

Dominic Rhodes is returning to the NFL with the same team he won a Super Bowl ring with. The running back signed with the Indianapolis Colts, the UFL confirmed Tuesday.

Fresh of a stint with the United Football League's Florida Tuskers, Rhodes became the sixth UFL star to join the active roster of a NFL club and the fourth to put pen to paper since the transfer fee was reduced to $25,000 from $150,000 last Thursday.

"The UFL was an awesome experience for me," said Rhodes in a UFL press release. "It was what I needed. It was definitely a blessing. I needed to go there and get that on my back too so I can carry that when I come here (to Indianapolis).

"I guarantee you guys in the UFL are hungry and I've always been that way and it just gave me more hunger."

Shulman, Hershiser, Valentine Give ESPN's 'Sunday Night Baseball' New Edge

by Milton Kent

Filed under:

ESPN introduced its new trio of "Sunday Night Baseball" television announcers Wednesday as a high-tech panel for a new generation of baseball consumers, a group better able to respond to the insatiable demands of its audience than the Hall of Fame duo that was present at the creation of the series.

When the Sunday night telecasts resume in the spring, viewers accustomed to Jon Miller and Joe Morgan will instead get Dan Shulman, Orel Hershiser and Bobby Valentine in large measure because the threesome can adapt to what today's baseball viewers want.

The fact that Shulman can do NBA and college basketball games for the Worldwide Leader, and Valentine and Hershiser can work in the studio as well as in the booth, apparently made them better choices for where ESPN is headed than Miller and Morgan, who pretty much were confined to calling games, an ESPN executive said.

Current Road Trip Has Gilbert Arenas Reflecting on the Past

PHOENIX -- Lest we forget, Gilbert Arenas was once a Basketball God.

It's true. Very few players could inflict the kind of damage Arenas could on a game. Everything from scoring at an unstoppable pace, to hitting game-winning shots like he was shooting them in a gym all by himself. Forget the quirky personality, and forget the "incident" from last season that got him suspended. From a purely basketball standpoint, Arenas on the court was legend, pure and simple.

As anyone watching him in the Wizards' 125-108 loss to the Suns on Sunday knows, the Arenas of old is gone forever. And that includes Gilbert himself.

If we're being honest, the Arenas that brought devastation upon his opponents whenever the mood struck has been gone for some time now. The 2006-07 season was the last where Gilbert truly dominated for extended stretches, but this current road trip -- and maybe his current circumstances -- seemed to make that magical time worth revisiting.

The last time the Wizards won in Phoenix was in December 2006, when Arenas torched the Suns for 54 points. Steve Nash wasn't too shabby himself on that night, contributing 42 points and 12 assists in the losing effort.

"That was many years ago," Arenas said, somewhat wistfully. "Many years ago."

Kevin Wilson Named New Indiana Coach

Kevin Wilson was named Indiana's new football coach Tuesday. The hire was announced at a press conference Tuesday afternoon by Indiana University athletic director Fred Glass. His contract is a seven-year deal worth $1.2 million a season.

Wilson has been the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma since 2006, and has been a member of Bob Stoops' staff in Norman, Okla. for the past eight seasons. He won the Broyles Award -- for being the nation's top assistant coach -- in 2008, following a season in which the Sooners scored an NCAA-record 716 points.

Wilson, 49, replaces Bill Lynch, who was fired after four seasons at helm. He was originally named full-time head coach after the Hoosiers went 7-6 in 2007 as an interim coach who took over for the late Terry Hoeppner. It was the Hoosiers first bowl berth since 1993. But in the last three seasons, Indiana was a dreadful 3-21 in Big Ten play, triggering Lynch's dismissal.

Indiana did go 5-7 and had chances to win a few other games this season -- namely close home losses to Michigan and Iowa -- so Wilson will not be entering a situation with a bare cupboard.

This will be Wilson's first head coaching job at the collegiate level. He began coaching as a graduate assistant for North Carolina back in 1984 and then an offensive line coach for Wiston-Salem in 1987. He was a high school head coach in 1989 before returning to the college ranks. In addition to his stint with Oklahoma, Wilson has also served as an offensive coordinator for Miami (Ohio) and Northwestern.
